This new community centre at Christ Church Highbury will provide flexible meeting and community space, a café and a public facing Church office, allowing the Church to better serve the local community by offering flexibility and space for groups to meet, as well as for Church activities. The building will be used in equal parts for activities relating to the Church, including its work within the community, work with their local charitable partners, and for rental. The proposed building is on the South-Western corner of the Grade II listed church itself, within the area currently forming part of the large Vicarage garden. A landscaped courtyard formed by the new building accommodates the outdoor cafe area and is open to the street and welcoming to the public. Disabled parking and new cycle parking are provided as well as ramped access into the existing Church.  The single-storey fully accessible church annexe draws on its historic context to inspire its choice of materials and details, to create a rich architectural language. It has been designed with high levels of insulation, natural daylight and ventilation, and a living green roof.
