Matthew Lloyd Architects have helped the Royal Foundation of St Katharine in Limehouse to create a Meanwhile Project on their currently vacant site, located immediately to the North of their existing complex of buildings and just to the west of Limehouse DLR Station. The Foundation is looking to create, in the long term, a mixed use development on the site including a community hub, performance space, public reflective space, a community cafe, a mix of housing together with areas for artists, social entrepreneurship and start-up opportunities. To try to ensure that such a future large scale project works in line with the Foundation’s ethos, fulfils real community need and has genuine community support, a cluster of temporary structures including containers and yurts has been installed on site accommodating artists studios and a cafe and are open for business.
