In January 2019, Matthew Lloyd Architects were appointed by Camden Council, following an invited tender process, to bring forward new proposals for the Tybalds Estate, a post-war estate in the heart of Holborn, under their Community Investment Programme. This followed a previous planning approval in 2014 which was not implemented.
The regeneration proposals are for a number of infill plots on the estate to be developed for Camden to provide 45 new homes, including 28 affordable, and an enhanced public realm. The scheme also includes the provision of improved access to existing blocks and a purpose-built community centre with two hall spaces. The extensive landscape proposal is designed to improve and enhance the open spaces, upgrading access to the existing blocks.
Public consultation is key to the successful outcome of this project, and we have held a number of exhibitions and workshops with the client group, the residents, neighbours and the wider public. The planning application is due to be submitted in September 2020.
