The Bourne Estate
Bourne Estate in report on the new generation of council homes
The Bourne Estate has been selected as a case study in this report on the new generation of council homes, with reference to its approach to “Context” defined here as:
An understanding of the context, history and the cultural characteristics of a site, neighbourhood and region influences the location, siting and design of new developments. It means that they are well grounded in their locality and more likely to be acceptable to existing communities. Creating a positive sense of place helps to foster a sense of belonging and contributes to well-being, inclusion and community cohesion.
Homes For All Council Housing Report
The research behind Homes for All aims to “establish a blueprint for how the public sector can begin building quality housing at scale”. Demonstrating its approach to Context the report quotes the Camden Design Awards jury “These modern buildings enrich rather than dilute the strong existing character of the Estate”.
