It is a brilliant architectural conceit but is thoroughly appropriate to its context as it maintains the vertical volumetric proportions of the streetscape. It also cleverly harnesses the practicalities of residential design to the allegory of a traditional church: by arranging the residential windows into narrow recessed bays they appear like the flying buttresses of a Gothic cathedral pressed flat into the shell of the nave and then smeared haphazardly across the naked facade.
